8- Although it might be tempting to assume that all teachers “dispense” knowledge that students then “store,” surely you have had one or two teachers who broke that stereotype. Why was your relationship different with that teacher, and how did teaching and learning take place?

Breaking the Habit

This week, we were instructed to read the essay the "Banking Concept of Education". It state that the teacher is responsible for all the knowledge that the students had learned so far. This is how the most teachers teach. They just insert information and knowledge into the student and told them that it is very important to remember all those information and knowledge. The student have been portrayed as an empty hard drive of a computer, and the teacher is the programmer that is programming the computer. This situation is common among teacher and student but not always true.

I have a teacher named Scott VXXXX ( I don't feel right put other people's name on the Internet with out their permission). He was my history teacher and have a unique way of teaching. As I recall all my memories of how he tough me lesson, I can said that his menthol of teaching is different than most of my other teacher. First of all, he all way say that we need to think about all the history events, why it happen and how it happen. He doesn't just told us to remember all the date of the events it happen and not knowing the reasons behind it. We usually have discussions over the events to express all the students' opinions and come to a conclusion that is based on the students' opinions not the teacher.

Mr. VXXXX always have a partner relationship with the students. We can exchange information and try to decided what will make sense the most, not just on the teacher is knows everything and students knows nothing. We learn by our judgement of the knowledge not the teacher's.

14- Describe the man who had the greatest influence on how you regard men or the woman who had the greatest influence on how you regard women. What personal attributes attracted you to that person? Have you met anyone or had any experiences that have led you to question your original beliefs about men and women?

Men and Women

The person who has the greatest influence on me about men or woman is probably my dad. He tough me that no matter who you are as long as you do you best, no matter what sex or races, you will accomplishes something during you life time. I still follow the lesson about the opposite sexes. I try to respect the both sex equally and show no favors toward one of the sex. I will continue to follow my father's idea about men and women.

I grown up in country who has a history of discrimination over women. Even though the women had gained some of the rights as male, the discrimination are still visible to the human eyes. I had witness parents giving away their daughters, because they they were born as female. In some parts of China, mostly the poor or undeveloped sections, the family only send their son to school and leave the girl at home. This reflect on the history of China, where people thought that the only job for the female is to stay home to cook, clean, and take care of the kids. It was then I questioned myself about my beliefs, and learn from the mistake of other people that men and women are created equally and shouldn't take favor between the sexes. My father helps along the way by giving me suggestion on way to treat people equally.

informal 4

Grade

My reaction to my grade on the summary essay wasn't that surprising. I already noticed a couple mistakes that I made before I turned in, but I didn't have the time to change it. First mistake is the margins of my paper, which is auto set on 1.25 inch. I completely forgot to change it from start. I will remember to change next time. Since I didn't change my margin, my paper weren't officially 3-4 pages long. Second mistake, I notice this when I was reading my paper again after I submitted in my paper. I found out that I chose a wrong word when I was doing my spell check. Third Mistake is there were a couple grammar errors in my paper. So I think I deserve the grade that was given to me.

2- Think back to a time when you modified how you spoke or wrote given the particular setting or audience. Recall the scenario and begin exploring why you changed your language behavior. What was your relationship to your audience that prompted this change?
The Changes

It was the end of summer break of year 2000, my father decided to buy a new restaurant in St. Louis. So my family had to move from a small to this huge city. Things were tough for me at my new school in St. Louis. The school was huge, and the kids act so different. For the first two months, I have absolute nobodies to talk to. I try to join in a couple times, but failed miserably.

After all that failures, so I start to listen to how kids in my new school talk and what they usually talk about. Since most of the kids talk so differently than where I came from. The vocabulary that they using in their language and what the usual subject of the discussion. After one or two week of listening, I start to pick up the difference. So I started to modify my way of talking, even if I will loss my old self, but I have a little choice if I want to get accepted in this new community and audience. Soon later, I began to notice that my writing are changing too, I started to use some vocabulary that is commonly used in the people that I was hanging with.

My relationship with my audience is similar to an instructor and a student. The student picks up knowledge that is taught by the instructor in order to be successful in the classroom. Then later the student will become the instructor and teach the new comer and the cycle goes on and on.

History VS Novel

Romance of Three Kingdoms, a tale of a 300 years betrayal, loyalty and raise and fell of countless heroes. But for the most part, this story isn't base on the real history. In some historical book, it says that empty castle tactic wasn't invent by Zhuge Lian, but by Sun Jian. The story Sun Xian Shang fell in love with Liu Bei and betray her brother in order to help Liu Bei escape weren't true. Sun Xian Shang was never in love Liu Bei. Thier marriage was just a politcal setup. She even betray Liu Bei and kidnap his son in the end. Guan Yu didn't really kill Hua Xiang, it was done by Sun Ce. Cao Cao is portrait as a ruthless tyrant were that cruel in the real life. He didn't kill over thousand of innocent civilian to get revenge for his father. The story maybe awesome, but we have to know that it isn't base on the real history.

7- In a journal entry, recall a time when you were new to an activity but you were not entirely sure of its rules or processes. How did you feel, and how did you try to learn that activity and fit in with those who did it often?

My Experience with Contig

I can still remember the first time I ever play Contig. It was during my third grade. My math teacher told us that we were going to play a math game call Contig and there will be an upcoming Contig tournament in school and the champion team will go on and face team from other school in a county tournament. The teacher spends about 20 minutes explaining the rule of Contig. But I couldn’t understand most words she was saying, since back then my English was that great. I was so terrible at my first Contig game that my opponent gave me a 10 point handicap at the start and I still lost the game by 15 points in the end. I felt like a complete loser at the end of the game, but I would not give up on the game.

To the people who don’t know what Contig is? It a math game, it consists of two team playing against each other. The team is made up of 1 to 3 players. At the before the game start, the teacher will pass out a Contig board. On the board, there is a table 12 x 12, each of the box have a number inside that goes from 1 to 144. The teacher randomly mark x on 10 of the boxes. Then the team will play rock, paper, and scissor to decide who will go first. As the game started, the teacher will roll three special dice, and he will yell the numbers the dices had rolled. The team will use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with the numbers to come up with a number and mark the box with that same in the box within the table. The team scores if the box the team marked is next to or diagonal to an already marked box. The amount of point that team earn depend on how many marked box is next to the box the team marked.

I spend a lot of time to learn all the rules to it. I watch how other player play the game, and try to the rules and some strategy along the. After a week or two, I finally learned all the basic rules of the game. Soon I won my very first game, but I won’t stop there. I overcome every opponent and challenges along the way. Even though I won the school Contig that year, and lost in the county tournament. What I enjoy the most about Contig was how much fun that game was not the win or lost.

prompt 2

When i entered a new environment, I will usually bring me self to the class room. I am a sort of a leader type person. I want to bring everyone to their maximum capacity. I want everyone to work at their hardest and best condition and i will be working with them at my best. I will bring a mindset of hard working, but have some fun along the way.

I am a serious person all the way. I will always put work before fun, but won't mind having a little fun along the way. I found that this way will get the work done faster and won't be boring. It help people relax and work at the same time. Most teachers or instructors used this way or similar way to create this kind of mind set in their class room or work places. All work and no fun really doesn't help much. A person who work for 8 hours a day, and don't have fun while working will usually felt tired or don't even want to do anything.

So, I do look like someone who will put work ahead of everything else, but that aren't the whole truth. I do like to had fun while working, or take some time off to relax. This is the kind of mindset that I will want to bring into the university and the classroom too.
